3. Register for the IELTS exam

To register for the IELTS exam, you will need to print and fill out an application form. You can find the application form here. The application form is short and straightforward to fill out. It only requests standard information – contact information, address, nationality, occupation, and why you are taking the test. The form will also require you to state which country you are applying to and why, so ensure you are prepared to answer those questions. For example, Canada – to study.  The IELTS application form asks you to identify countries and languages using codes. Do not panic when you see this; the codes can be easily found on the 3rd and 4th pages of the application.

The last thing to know about the application is personal identification. Accepted on the IELTS application form are two types of ID – national identity or passport. You will need to scan a copy of whichever ID type you are using and attach it to your application form. Remember! You must bring the same ID to the test. Suppose you applied with a passport and arrived with a national identity card to the test. In that case, the testing center will reject you.

Submit your application to the nearest testing center. Upon registration of the test, the testing center will charge you the test fee, which will vary depending on your country. For a list of countries and their test prices, click here

4. Confirmation of the test

Once approved, you will receive confirmation from the testing center. The testing center will provide you with the dates and time of the exam. Sometimes, the testing center will hold the speaking and listening sections on a different day from the writing and reading sections. If this does happen, the two test days will be no more than seven days apart.
